Gallery V - Your Children Are My Children

Personhood. It's been my experience that children respond with joy, curiosity, smiles, and yes, even disinterestedness when met on terms of their personhood. Mostly, they respond in kind. For my part, it is a matter of protecting their psyches. My dance career included being a dance educator for children: encouraging movement expression; creative problem-solving; exploring the elements of dance-making. I had positive and constitutive experiences as a child. Framing these experiences, whether from my dance teacher, Joan Chodorow, or from my parents, I was attended to with a quality that honored my personhood. It has always been my joy to witness and be with children. And your children are my children. As an artist, as a human being, I’ve always taken care to protect the psyches of children by honoring their personhood.
