The Swan Project is a multi-dimensional investigation of the ‘swan’ as a trope found in myth, music, poetry, literature, philosophy, alchemy, dance, and art. Generative in the truest sense of the term, The Swan Project continues to evolve through its production of new creative work in dance, painting, literature, performance, and art installations. Thank you to all of the artists who continue to make this project possible.

THE SWAN LECTURES©
body and soul and a poetics of everything in-between
facilitated by
L. Martina Young, Ph.D.
THE SWAN LECTURES © is an immersive 18-hour laboratory workshop experience that isolates, analyses, and practices concrete skills that return each of us to our bodies as the primary speaking subject. In an evolving modern age when an understanding the ‘wisdom of the body’ has become one of the most sought-after goals of well-being, THE SWAN LECTURES centers on utilizing and actuating the whole of our beings in our every day lives — bodily, cognitively, soulfully — the integration of which is the sum experience of body wisdom.
As a somatic movement therapist and lifelong practice as a dance artist, together with over 10-years research on how the image of the “swan” has functioned throughout world myth, music, poetry, film, literature, philosophy, alchemy, dance, and art, facilitator L. Martina Young, Ph.D. considers how the image speaks to us today and symbolizes the integration of body and soul.
THE SWAN LECTURES laboratory workshop concludes with a movement performance created and presented collaboratively by participating workshop members. Garnering onsite and generative material from each individual workshop experience, L. Martina Young premieres a solo dance performance and literary reading that reflects and embodies the whole of The Swan Project.
